Kid’s are heading back to school, Target is selling Halloween decor and my algorithm is pushing pumpkin spice recipes down my throat???? But alas! I’m still in summer mode being that I live in Los Angeles and the sun is beating down on my non-air conditioned, one bedroom apartment.
This means I’m still hitting the beach and spending most of my days outside. Here are a few items I’m using almost every day to properly round out summer, keep me cooled off and on trend (or ahead of, depends on who you ask????).
Straw Cowboy Hat with Turquoise Pin
I was forced into it for a bachelorette trip ok!! Cowboy hats have never been my thing. But I got a good one that I knew I would wear all season AND I customized it by stripping off the pleather belt it had around the brim and popped in a super cool, turquoise, hat pin I bought in ATX at Maufrais.
If you style this hat right, there’s something very “Wild West meets Venice Beach culture” that makes it not so…yeehaw? Idk nothing wrong with yeehaw! I just cross my fingers and hope people don’t greet me with “Howdy” as I walk down the street. And they don’t because I usually have it paired with an earth toned bathing suit, some kind of linen cover up and minimalist sandals.
Practicality wised, this thing keeps you looking and feeling cool, shaded and capable of sitting in the sun sans umbrella for a long while…partner ????.
Ok definitely later to the exercise dress party than the East Coast girlies. But holy crap this thing is FUNCTIONAL. As you might know, I was a cheerleader in college and few things feel as good as slipping into that adorable uniform. It was sporty, comfortable, looked so polished and made me feel like a million bucks.
As an adult (????), it’s obviously inappropriate to wear a green and yellow spandex sports bra and mini skirt. This dress is the closest thing I’ve found to that nostalgic feeling of slipping on my old uniform and hitting the field to get sh*t done. I bought it to run my first half-marathon in May and have since continued to use it for sport and errand alike. It keeps you cool in the heat, stretches where you need it and adds a bit of dare I say…elegance??…to what would otherwise be a run-of-the-mill athleisure fit. Buy her.
You guys…when those flawless skinned girls on TikTok say you can use this as foundation they aren’t kidding!! I usually pop a little sheer coverage on top. But man oh man does this stuff give you that glowy/dewey thing we’re all chasing.
I’ll usually rub some into my cheeks before my morning run (to feel something) and it totally changes my attitude. Nothing like UV protection and very fine glitter slathered on your skin first thing in the AM ????✨.
Have you seen the ironic L.L. Bean Tote embroidery trend on TikTok? If not, you’re welcome and I’ll have you know I hopped right tf on that train. Introducing to you my size medium, regular Boat and Tote with short, “dark green” straps and custom embroidery that reads “unbothered.”
I was really hopping to customize it with “uppity bitch” as I was recently called this by a dear friend… who is absolutely right. But it was too long ????.
This bag is perfect for beach days and strutting around town. It’s casual yet structured. Big enough for a towel and the 10 lbs of sunscreen I require to prevent a lobster level char on my skin.
As I sit here now at a cafe writing this post, I have it positioned outward letting the other mac book typers know that I am far more unbothered in life that they. It IS a competition and I’m winning.
If you’re going to join me and the other hot girlies on this trend, I recommend getting the long straps and if your customized text doesn’t fit in the L.L. Bean generator, buy it plane and take it to your local seamstress. They’ll hook you up.
Ice (lol)
Need I say more? If you’re in Los Angeles, that heat wave that punished all of Europe and the East Coast just arrived. One ✨charming✨ aspect of west side living is most of the apartment buildings are 12-24 units, built in the late 50’s and do NOT have AC. Most of us have these R2D2 looking units that require rigging your 70 year old windows.
Queue the ice. Iced water, iced coffee, iced tea, iced balsamic vinegar coke dupe, iced adrenal cocktail, ice cubes in wine, ice baths. You get it. I need it.
But you can make it fun with molds! I have these nice big cubes but the options for fun shapes are endless!
